How to Wash Your Dog Collar

Let’s set the scene: After a long winter, lo and behold, Mother Nature provides you with the first warm day in ages. You prop open the back door to let some fresh air in…and Fido goes out. “Ahh, this is the life,” you say out loud.

Suddenly, your pooch comes prancing in looking like the Creature from the Black Lagoon. While you were basking in the sun’s glorious rays, your dog was bathing in a spectacular mud puddle. And, OF COURSE, he went in face first, rubbing his normally super cute face and neck through nature’s muck. He’s thinking, “She spends money on this at the spa and I got it for free!!!” You’re thinking, “WHAT THE…”

It’s cleanup time! For your pup? Straight to the tub. For his collar? Straight to the washing machine. Yup, Up Country Collars are built to last and will wash up like new in just a few steps. Here’s how you do it:

  • Take it off and give it a quick rinse - sure, you could hose the dog and collar down together, but we’re talking about a category 5 mud storm clean up on aisle 5.
  • Pop it in a delicates laundry bag. If you don’t have one of these – an old pillowcase tied at the top works too.
  • Toss bag with collar in your washing machine on either your handwash or delicates cycle (cold) with your normal laundry detergent.
  • Air dry flat and voila!

At Up Country, we have dogs…lots of dogs. We’ve perfected the art of the wash for purely selfish reasons and as a bonus to our customers too. We’ve laundered thousands of collars at this point and they wash beautifully. A little too good as they LAST FOREVER. But that’s ok because we’ve got your back – and apparently your dog’s neck too.
